Hi our names are Jeneyah, Jody and Christian and we’re fundraising for our beautiful dad, Christian Clarke.
Our dad has always been the strongest man we know. Kind, funny, gentle and deeply loved by everyone who meets him. Right now, he's facing the biggest fight of his life.
He was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer caused by an ERBB2 (HER2) gene mutation, something that occurs in only 1–2% of lung cancer patients. This mutation doesn’t respond well to standard chemotherapy, and sadly, that's proving to be the case for him.
In January 2025, he underwent major surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung and began chemotherapy shortly after. Unfortunately, partway through treatment, a scan revealed a new mass. This mass confirmed that the cancer had returned and is not responding properly to the chemotherapy.
The cancer has now spread and he has a lesion on his brain and prostate, and he’s currently being treated palliatively. Doctors are starting radiotherapy on his brain to help control symptoms and reduce further progression .
Our dad has never smoked a day in his life. He’s always been incredibly fit and healthy running half marathons, cycling, staying active every day. Even when the cancer was already in his lung, he was still out running and riding his bike, putting his persistent cough down to something minor. That’s just the kind of man he is resilient, strong, and always moving forward.
It doesn’t feel real hearing the word “palliative” when even now, he’s still up and about, walking, smiling, laughing. After surgery, he was upright and walking around right away…he just couldn’t wait to get back on his feet. This isn’t the first time he’s faced cancer he beat leukaemia as a teenager, and since then, has lived life to the absolute fullest and has so much more to give.
At the moment, there are no NHS treatment options left in terms of targeted therapies. However, his lovely doctor revealed there is some hope in a new drug that has shown encouraging results in breast cancer patients with the same gene mutation. For lung cancer, this treatment is not yet available on the NHS and we were told that it could take around 7 to 8 months to become accessible through clinical trials. His doctor is in contact with other hospitals to find available options for him but we can’t afford to wait and private care is looking like the best option.
We are doing everything we can to try to get him on compassionate use programmes and clinical trials. The hospitals have been amazing, and we are currently being supported by different teams, including the wonderful team at Wythenshawe Hospital, who have praised our dad for his constant positivity, his smile and his laughter, even after receiving devastating news he simply didn’t deserve to hear.
To try to access this treatment privately in the UK, doctors have estimated the cost will be between £2,000 and £4,000 per injection, with several rounds required.
If you’re from Stockport, it’s likely you know my dad or have crossed paths with him at some point. He is the kind of man who greets everyone with a smile and a hello. He talks to everyone and is very loved for that reason. I know everyone says this, but he really is the sweetest man you will ever meet.
We are asking for your help to raise urgent funds to give our dad a chance at more time. Every donation, every share, every kind message means the world to us. Even £5 brings us a step closer to hope.
Thank you so much for reading and supporting our family through this incredibly hard time.
Thank you so much,
Jody, Jeneyah and Christian xxx
